The former head of the Catholic Church in Hong Kong, Cardinal Joseph Zen, believes the 79-day Occupy demonstration was a success.
Looking back, he said the protests raised people's awareness about Hong Kong's development, although he thinks it was inevitable that divisions in society would be seen as a result.
Cardinal Zen also said religious leaders need to speak out fearlessly about criticisms of the central government.
He was speaking after a local Christian leader condemned Beijing's moves to dismantle crosses at mainland churches, at an event where senior Central government officials were also present. Cardinal Zen said it's insulting to see crosses being taken down and church leaders should express their opinions just like anyone else.
