Police say the wife of the missing Causeway Bay bookseller, Lee Bo, has told them that she met with her husband at an undisclosed mainland location and that he’s helping with an investigation.

They said in a statement that Lee’s wife met him on Saturday afternoon in a hotel, and that he was mentally and physically well, and had told her that he was a witness helping in an investigation by mainland police.

Police said they also received a letter from Lee, and have talked to Guangdong police, but still wanted to meet with Lee directly.

Lee was last seen in Chai Wan in December. The Immigration Department says it has no record of him leaving the SAR, fuelling speculation he was abducted by mainland officials.

Lee is one of five men linked to Causeway Bay Books to have disappeared in recent months, prompting speculation that they had been abducted. The store sold titles critical of Beijing, including some on the private lives of state officials.
