A giant pro-democracy banner was put up on a hillside near a construction site in Kwun Tong which is expected to be visited by state leader Zhang Dejiang on Thursday.

The Fire Service Department later removed the banner which stated: "I want genuine universal suffrage".

Similar banners were also removed from various locations on Tuesday when Zhang arrived in Hong Kong for a three-day visit.

Some of the locations were along his motorcade's route from Hong Kong International Airport to a hotel in Wan Chai where he is staying.

One of the banners also stated: "I want genuine universal suffarge" while another stated: "End to the Communist Party's dictatorship".

Zhang is the chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee. He is also responsible for overseeing Hong Kong affairs.
