The captain of the Hong Kong men's ice hockey team, Tony Leung, took the honour of carrying the SAR flag into the opening ceremony of the Sapporo 2017 Asian Winter Games on Sunday night.
He led the territory's largest-ever delegation to the games into the Sapporo Dome. He was followed by members of the men's and women's ice hockey teams, speed skating team, and figure skating team.
After the athletes' parade, the president of the Olympic Council of Asia declared the opening of the 8th Asian Winter Games.
Before the opening ceremony, Leung had made sure Hong Kong opened the games on a winning note as the men's ice hockey team won their first match 12-1 over Singapore on Saturday.
The short track speed skating team led by Sidney Chu begin competition on Monday.
