Hundreds of people have staged a rally outside government headquarters in Admiralty to protest against the disqualifications of four lawmakers following a ruling by the High Court on Friday.

One of the protestors, Tjhan Shui-ling, said Beijing's Basic Law interpretation has unfairly overturned last year's Legislative Council election results.

“The situation is like after he got the score, then some judges said our rules have changed and your score is cancelled and you’ll be disqualified”, she said. “This is not logical and it violates the rules that you set”, she added.

The court had ruled that legislators Nathan Law, Leung Kwok-hung, Lau Siu-lai and Edward Yiu had failed to take their lawmaker oaths correctly following the election.

The court case was initiated by former Chief Executive CY Leung, and echoed similar legal action last year that saw Youngspiration pair Sixtus Leung and Yau Wai-ching lose their Legco seats over their deliberately-botched oaths.
