The Urban Renewal Authority (URA) said on Friday that a redevelopment project in Sai Ying Pun it is planning will provide around 165 flats and improve the living conditions of the entire neighbourhood.
The 1,100 square-metre site covers around 10 buildings on Sung Hing Lane, Des Voeux Road West and Kwai Heung Street.
The buildings, constructed between the 1950s and 70s, are six to eight storeys tall, have no lifts, and are in poor condition.
Some of the units have been subdivided and it’s estimated there are about 110 households in the buildings, with a total of 235 residents.
Thirteen ground floor shops will also be affected by the redevelopment.
The URA said the new flats will be about 400 to 500 square feet in size and the project is expected to be completed in 2026 or 2027.
Officials said the redevelopment will create more open space in the area and provide better access to a nearby playground.
The public is being given two months to inspect the plans and submit any objections.
