Activists from around 40 groups descended on the Education University on Friday to protest over a poster that appeared to mock the death of a government official’s son.

The eldest son of Undersecretary for Education Christine Choi died on Thursday after he fell from a flat at a residential complex in West Kowloon.

The groups demonstrated outside a library at the university’s campus in Tai Po, denouncing whoever put up the poster which “congratulated” Choi on the 25-year-old’s death.

They said the perpetrators lacked morals for kicking Choi while she was down.

The protesters demanded that university officials punish those responsible for the poster if they are found to be students there.

Controversial university posters and banners have been in the news throughout this week after material promoting Hong Kong independence was put up at the Chinese University on Monday and then at several other institutions over the following days.
