The president of the Education University said on Monday that even if the perpetrators behind offensive posters are found to be students at the institution, he won't report them to police.

Stephen Cheung said on Monday that if students of the university were behind two recent posters, he will let the institution's disciplinary committee deal with them.

Cheung said it is still not known who put up a poster taunting the Undersecretary for Education Christine Choi over her son's suicide last week, as well as another late last week that mocked the death of Nobel laureate, Liu Xiaobo.

He also said that the university has informed the Privacy Commissioner about the leakage of CCTV footage showing two alleged suspects behind the poster against Choi.

He said the Privacy Commissioner will look into the matter.

Cheung said the university will also look at whether better procedures can be adopted to prevent such leaks in the future.

But the president of the university's student union, Lala Lai, said Cheung should issue a formal statement about the leakage and send emails to all students to respond to their concerns.
