Thousands of people joined a protest on Sunday to demand the University of Hong Kong sack a law professor who spearheaded the 2014 Occupy Movement.
The group that staged the rally claimed a turnout of around four thousand, but police put the number at two thousand one hundred.
One of the organisers of the demonstration, lawmaker Junius Ho, said Benny Tai should also be held responsible for growing calls for Hong Kong independence.
That view was shared by DAB lawmaker Holden Chow - who was among the crowds at Tamar Park.
He said that if Professor Tai was allowed to continue teaching at HKU, the consequences for Hong Kong would be dire, as youngsters would buy into his philosophy of using illegal means to achieve your goals.
