Cherry Wong talks to RTHK's Richard Pyne
Residents' groups on Thursday demanded councillors drop plans to turn part of Sai Wan Pier in Kennedy Town into a community garden, saying the area needs to be kept for the use of the general public.

The proposal for the site, dubbed 'Instagram Pier' because of its popularity among photographers, was announced in Chief Executive Carrie Lam’s Policy Address.

Cherry Wong, the convenor of the Protect Kennedy Town Alliance, said the plans would stop photographers, joggers, dog walkers and other regular users of the pier from enjoying the open, public space.

"A community garden is a closed area. It’s also gated and fenced off. If you are not a tenant you can’t go in freely… it means that you will drive out the current users of that area," she told RTHK's Richard Pyne.

Wong's group was among those who raised objections to the plan with Central and Western District Council.
