The chairman of the Institute of the Motor Industry, Ringo Lee, has urged the government to lower the speed limit of parts of Tai Po Road, after a horrific bus accident that killed 19 people on Saturday.
The current speed limit of Tai Po Road is 70 kilometres per hour.
Lee said whether a vehicle topples over depends on a combination of factors, including its speed, its weight, and its centre of gravity.
He said even if the bus involved in the accident was not travelling at full capacity, there would still have been a chance of it toppling over.
Lee said that more signs should be put up on that particular stretch of road to warn motorists to drive with caution.
He also told RTHK's Janice Wong that the government probe of the accident should also assess speed limits around Hong Kong, as traffic has increased in many areas like Tai Po.
