German officials say Liu Xia, the widow of the late Nobel peace prize laureate Liu Xiaobo, has been granted permission to reside and work in the country and there is no need for her to seek political asylum.
A spokesman for the interior ministry said according to international law and the relevant humanitarian regulations, Liu Xia can stay indefinitely.
A spokesman for German Chancellor Angela Merkel said the government is happy and relieved by Liu Xia's arrival.
It was believed that Liu Xia is staying at a flat arranged by the German government after arriving in Berlin after years of unofficial house arrest on the mainland.
It still remains unclear whether Liu Xia will attend a memorial service at the Gethsemane Church in Berlin on Friday to mark the first anniversary of the death of her husband.
