Leo Au has won the all Hong Kong showdown against Max Lee to capture the Asian Games men’s singles squash title.
Au took the contest in four games. His victory marks the first time a Hong Kong player has won singles gold in squash at the Asian Games since Rebecca Chiu won the women’s singles crown in 2002.
Both Au and Lee had come from two games down to win their respective semifinal matches in five. But in the final, there was no coming back for Lee after dropping the first two games against his younger teammate.
The first two games were close as Au won then 11-8, 12-10,
Lee hit back by taking the third game 11-6. But Au pulled away to take the final game 11-4.
Meanwhile, Nicol David of Malaysia won the women’s singles final for her fifth Asian Games title. Her first came in Bangkok in 1998.
David needed five games to beat her 19-year-old teammate Sivasangari Subramaniam.
