The pro-independence Hong Kong National Party remained silent on Friday morning as the deadline loomed for it to respond to the government's plan to ban the outfit.

The Security Bureau said on Friday that by 11am it had not received any documents from the party so far, with the deadline set at 5pm.

The party's convenor Chan Ho-tin, meanwhile, told RTHK that he will address the issue "later", without elaborating what he plans to do.

The Secretary for Security, John Lee, said in July that the police had recommended the government ban the party under the Societies Ordinance, out of national security and safety concerns.

The deadline for the party to submit its submissions has been extended three times, upon requests by the party.
