The Financial Secretary Paul Chan says he expects the total number of visitor arrivals for this year to hit 60 million, an all-time high.

Writing on his blog, Chan said over 5.8 million tourists came to Hong Kong in October alone, and he expects the figure for November to be even higher following the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.

Chan said hotels, and the broader tourism sector, felt that business had improved this year with the help not only of the bridge but also the cross-border high speed rail link, which opened in September.

He said future infrastructure projects, such a new boundary control point at Liantang-Heung Yuen Wai and a new airport runway, would further strengthen Hong Kong's position as a leading destination for tourists.
