The Hong Kong Journalists' Association has welcomed the lifting of restrictions that were preventing internet-based media from covering government events. Its executive committee member, Shirley Yam, says the decision amounts to a good start in office for the Chief Executive, Carrie Lam. She told Jim Gould the conditions and requirements that have been imposed on the internet-based media are fair.
More public rental housing is the main solution  Listenfacebook
The Business Director of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, Anthony Wong, says the building of more public rental housing is the main long term solution to meet the housing needs of low-income families. He says the launching of a pilot scheme to help the group is a step in the right direction. Wong says he expects two households to share an apartment together under the scheme. He tells Ben Tse if the scheme goes well, it could be expanded.
Visits to Rakhine state by observers not that easy: correspondent  Listenfacebook
Myanmar's leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, has used a television address to express concern about the violence that has caused more than 400,000 Muslim Rohingyas to flee to Bangladesh. The Nobel Peace Laureate said she felt deeply for all of those caught up in the conflict - and wanted to find out what's led to the exodus. Suu Kyi also said the military forces have been instructed to avoid harming innocent civilians. She said Myanmar is not afraid of international scrutiny, and encouraged international observers to visit Rakhine state. But RTHK's Southeast Asia correspondent, Larry Jagan, told Jim Gould that visits to the region are still restricted.
