Regina Ip currying support from hardliners, says political analyst Listen
Political analyst Chung Kim-wah says chief executive candidate Regina Ip appears to be courting the support of the city’s pro-Beijing camp and those who favour adopting a hardline approach to ruling Hong Kong. But Chung said that the event at which Ip announced her candidacy showed that she wasn’t able to attract much support from the business sector, pan-democrats or young people. Chung spoke to Annemarie Evans.
Chicken superbug findings alarming, says microbiologist Listen
A microbiologist from the University of Hong Kong, Ho Pak-leung, says it’s alarming that tests by the Consumer Council found two-thirds of chicken samples contained a superbug. Ho told Ben Tse that it was significant that many of these chickens came from local or mainland farms, and called for stricter regulations on the use of antibiotics.
Territorial dispute in focus as Putin meets Abe Listen
The Russian president Vladimir Putin has met with Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe in Nagato for talks aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries. A territorial row over islands north of Japan, seized by Soviet forces at the end of the Second World War will be a major focus before agreements can be reached on economic cooperation. RTHK's Moscow correspondent Fred Weir spoke to Annemarie Evans.
