Some legislators are questioning KMB's decision to suspend some 200 part-time drivers from duty over safety concerns, in the wake of the deadly bus crash in Tai Po over the weekend. Nineteen passengers died and scores more wounded after a 30 year-old part-time driver – who'd never been trained to drive that particular route – apparently lost control of his double-decker. Legislator Chu Hoi-dick says the move appears to be little more than a PR stunt, and the bus operator should instead focus on real problems like a lack of proper training, long shifts, and inadequate wages. He spoke to Annemarie Evans:

Hong Kongers who're planning to visit the mainland during the lunar new year holidays are being urged to stay away from live poultry, after mainland authorities on Wednesday confirmed the world's first human case of a strain of bird flu known as H7N4. A 68-year-old woman in Jiangsu Province fell ill – and has now recovered. Professor of Respiratory Medicine David Hui, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, told Ben Tse even though experts aren't sure how much of a threat this strain of birdflu is to humans yet, travellers should play it safe:

Australia's prime minister has imposed a formal ban on sex between ministers and their staff, after slamming his deputy for making what he described as "a shocking error of judgement", by having an affair that left an aide pregnant and the government reeling. Malcolm Turnbull announced the amendment to the ministerial code of conduct at an extraordinary press conference during which he criticised Barnaby Joyce for causing "terrible hurt and humiliation" to his wife and four children.
