New measures to prevent photo-taking in courts necessary: Ronny Tong Listen
Senior Counsel Ronny Tong says the new measures announced by the Judiciary to prevent people from taking pictures in jury trials are necessary. They came after a woman was recently sentenced to seven days in prison for contempt of court, after taking photos during a hearing. And in another case, pictures of jurors were sent to the Judiciary in a high-profile Mong Kok riot trial last month, in a possible attempt to pervert the course of justice. Tong told Ben Tse that the Judiciary was just asking for a small thing given the importance of having an efficient judicial system:
Airport Authority has opened up security loopholes: lawmaker Listen
Civic Party lawmaker and pilot Jeremy Tam has expressed concern that the Airport Authority has opened up security loopholes after it recently changed its requirements for baggage checks. The authority earlier deleted a rule that requires baggage checks to be conducted in front of passengers. It said this can save the court time and money in dealing with a legal challenge over how a daughter of former Chief Executive CY Leung allegedly got around standard protocol two years ago.
