Elderly Commission Lam Ching-choi said on Tuesday that plans are afoot to allow people to rent hi-tech gadgets that will help them care for elderly people in their own homes.
Lam said the old model to run elderly care homes is a dead end, and applying technology in services can improve standards – even though it doesn't necessarily reduce manpower.
He said an expo displaying products that can be used for elderly care attracted a lot of visitors last time. The Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit is now returning to Hong Kong for a second year and will showcase almost 380 products, including a lifting robot.
The expo at the Convention and Exhibition Centre will be held from November 22-25.
