  • Evacuate Hongkongers from Wuhan urgently: BPA
Pro-Beijing party, the Business and Professionals Alliance, on Monday called on the Carrie Lam administration to send chartered flights to Hubei to evacuate Hong Kong people stuck in the province.

More than 2,000 Hong Kong people are stranded in and around the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak that has killed almost 1,800 people worldwide.

Some Hongkongers trapped the province, which has been placed under lockdown, have complained that they are running out of medical supplies and other daily necessities.

The BPA’s vice-chairman and executive councillor, Jeffrey Lam, said he understands that the SAR government has been considering plans to bring these people back home, but he thinks it should act promptly.

Lam said there are 2,200 people from Hong Kong in the province and all of them can't be brought back in one go.

"Maybe we should concentrate on taking care of the residents in Wuhan city," he said. I think, if possible, the Hong Kong government should bring back families with elderly people and children first."

The government is sending a chartered flight to Japan to evacuate about 300 Hong Kong residents from a cruise ship which is now under quarantine there.
