The majority of government employees returned to their offices on Monday, with many saying they believe the resumption of normal working arrangements would help clear a backlog of work.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced last week that the administration would lift the work-from-home arrangement following a slowdown in the coronavirus pandemic, adding that public services would resume in phases.

However, some civil servants told RTHK that they are still concerned about the potential spread of the virus, saying their departments have yet to provide staff with face masks.

Others, meanwhile, said they welcomed the easing of restrictions and it is high time that the administration starts providing normal services again.

This sentiment was shared by some members of the public too, with dozens of people queuing up at the Transport Department office in Admiralty hoping to renew their driver or vehicle licences.

One of them, a woman surnamed Ko, said her licence has expired and she is desperate to have it renewed. A man, surnamed Chan, also said he wanted to renew his vehicle licence in order to continue driving.
