A new cluster of local Covid-19 infections appears to be spreading, with sources telling RTHK on Monday night that four people who live in the same Shatin building as a couple earlier confirmed with the disease have also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
However, it’s unclear whether they had any direct contact with a 34-year-old woman and her 56-year-old husband who were confirmed to be infected over the weekend.
At least two people were seen to be bundled onto ambulances outside Luk Chuen House of Lek Yuen Estate on Monday evening, by paramedics wearing full protective gear.
However health officials said there was no need at this stage to evacuate people from the building.
The female patient remains in a critical condition. Two of her colleagues at a Kerry Logistics warehouse in Kwai Chung have also been confirmed to have contracted the virus, as well as a paramedic, 27, who took her to hospital on Saturday.
He had performed some procedures on the patient while wearing a surgical facemask – and not an N95 respirator which offers more protection.
Under secretary for health Chui Tak-yi had said in a press conference earlier on Monday that the authorities are very concerned about the latest cluster of infections.
The 34-year-old woman had visited a private doctor several times before she tested positive for the virus.
Dr. Chui reminded the city's 7,000 private doctors to test patients suffering from respiratory infections for the coronavirus, even if their symptoms are mild.
