Hong Kong’s top cyclist Sarah Lee said on Sunday that she had achieved “half her dream” at the Tokyo Games, but she had no regrets as she reflected on another medal-winning meet.

Her bronze medal in the sprint event is her second Olympics medal, after her bronze in the keirin at London 2012. She’s the only Hong Kong athlete to have won medals at two separate Olympic Games.

The track cycling star had been hoping for medals in both the sprint and keirin, but she said a wrong move in the keirin had ended those hopes.

“After I lost in the keirin, my coach told me I didn't need to take it to heart since the Olympics is just a game,” Lee told reporters moments after her medal-winning race.

“If you treat it as a game... some people may feel frustrated after taking part, but to me the Olympics is an experience, I have learnt a lot and it's meant so much more than a medal.”

Lee added that she had hoped to get a gold medal, but she had no regrets as she had given her all.

There were also plaudits from Chief Executive Carrie Lam, who described Lee as a “legend” whose “competence and determination have passed the test of time”.

“All Hong Kong people are overjoyed at her achievements,” Lam added.
