The Kowloon City court on Tuesday handed a one-year jail term to a man who knew he was infected with Covid-19 but still dined at restaurants and used public transport.
Magistrate Frances Leung said Lam Hin-yeung's behaviour over five days in February was despicable when the entire society was fighting the pandemic, adding that he had caused others to worry by announcing his whereabouts online.
The magistrate did not accept that the defendant, 28, had committed the offences because he felt anxious when waiting for his PCR test result.
Lam earlier pleaded guilty to eleven counts of exposing others to the risk of infection.
The magistrate had deducted three months from the sentence, after considering the fact that Lam had been cooperative with police officers and other factors.
