The Labour Department on Thursday launched an investigation into an industrial accident after a worker was believed to have fallen to his death from a building in Mid-Levels.

The police said they received a report at around 8:20am that the man, 57, was lying on the ground at Jade Garden, which is under demolition.

The man suffered injuries to his head, arms and legs and was taken to Queen Mary Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A force spokesman said an initial investigation suggested the worker had fallen from the 10th floor.

The Labour Department said it had deployed staff to the scene and it was probing the cause of the incident.
