Chief Executive John Lee on Saturday hailed the completion of a new toll-free tunnel linking Tseung Kwan O and Lam Tin, as well as a connecting bridge, saying they would provide convenience to people by cutting their journey times.

Speaking at an officiating ceremony, the CE praised the construction team for overcoming difficulties brought by the pandemic over the past three years.

"The Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel and the Cross Bay Link help promote Hong Kong's development and bring citizens a greater sense of fulfillment," he said.

"Citizens will save time and money. It's expected that commuters can save up to 20 minutes during peak hours when they travel between Lohas Park and Kwun Tong. Tseung Kwan O residents may leave home later and go home earlier so they can spend more time with their families."

He said the government would continue to take forward other infrastructure to improve the city's transport network.

The tunnel and the bridge will be open for public use from 8am on Sunday.
