At least one person was sent to hospital and more than 30 people had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in Mong Kok on Saturday.

The blaze on the podium of Hung Fai Building on Dundas Street began at around 11am, shooting plumes of smoke into the sky.

A 40-year-old man had to be sent to Kwong Wah Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters put out the flames just before 1pm.

The authorities advised nearby residents to close their windows if they were affected by the smoke and smell from the blaze.
