Cathay Pacific on Friday said all flights arriving in Hong Kong before 10am on Saturday will be cancelled, while departing flights will resume from noon that day.

The carrier made the announcement just before the the observatory issued the first Hurricane Signal No 10 since 2018.

The T10 was issued at 8.15pm on Friday as the eyewall of Super Typhoon Saola passed through Hong Kong.

While it’s not a direct hit, the territory will be subjected to the wall of wind surrounding the storm centre – where sustained winds are thought to be moving at speeds of up to 210 kilometres per hour.

Cathay Pacific added that further flight delays and cancellations may be required based on weather conditions and the typhoon’s path on Saturday morning.

The airline operator said it will automatically rebook passengers onto the next available flight.

Earlier, the Airport Authority said at least 360 flights in and out of the SAR from 2pm on Friday have been cancelled so far, while another 40 have been delayed.
