Fifteen people have been killed in a landslide in Hunan province.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the landslide hit Yuelin Village in the city of Hengyang at around 8am on Sunday.

It washed away a one-storey guesthouse.

Six others were injured and treated at hospital.

More than 300 people were deployed for the rescue efforts.

The area has been hit by heavy rain.

Authorities have issued the orange alert for rainstorms in Hunan, the second-level in the country's four-tier colour-coded weather warning system.

There are fears that water levels in parts of Hunan could go beyond alert marks in the next 24 to 40 hours. (Agencies)
