For the first time since Hong Kong emerged from the Covid pandemic, official figures show visitor numbers topped the one million mark last month. But that is still a third of pre-pandemic levels from 2019, as Ada Au reports:

The Consumer Council has urged manufacturers of home surveillance cameras to enhance the cybersecurity of their products. It made the call after just one of the 10 video surveillance systems it tested complied with European security standards. Vanessa Cheng reports:

The chief executive of the Consumer Council, Gilly Wong, says the watchdog found security concerns with nine nanny-cam models, such as transmission of videos and data without encryption and failure to defend against hacking attacks. Many spy camera apps also had inadequate security in the storage of user data. Wong told Ben Tse that the government should look at how other countries police cyber security for "the internet of things":

IT-sector lawmaker Duncan Chiu says it will be difficult to regulate camera manufacturers because many of them are not based in Hong Kong. He also told Leung Pak-hei that tougher laws should be enacted to better safeguard privacy:

Kowloon Motor Bus says it is open to the idea of a new mechanism to regularly review and set bus fares. Such a fare adjustment mechanism is already in place for train fares. KMB and the four other franchised bus companies have submitted proposals to Legco this week to raise their fares, but they have been branded unreasonable by some lawmakers. Maggie Ho reports:

Lawmakers have called on housing officials to get their act together and speed up work on tightening rules on subsidised homes. The calls come amid reports that a suspect in the recent murder of socialite, Abby Choi, bought a flat under the Green Form Subsidised Home Ownership Scheme for public flat tenants, despite already owning a high-end flat in Ho Man Tin worth tens of millions of dollars. Authorities earlier conceded that they did not vet the assets of green-form applicants. Lawmaker Paul Tse told Ada Au that the policy was outdated:

An economics scholar says it is important for China to achieve its goal to become self-reliant in science and technology, not only because of what Beijing sees as suppression by the United States.
