New targets set to protect people's health  Listenfacebook
The government has set a series of targets in a bid to help prevent Hong Kong people from suffering chronic diseases such as cancer, heart diseases and diabetes. It said these diseases accounted for 25,000 deaths, or more than half of the total number of deaths every year. The targets mainly involve changing people’s unhealthy lifestyle, such as reducing their salt intake and the smoking prevalence by 30 per cent before 2025. Dr Regina Ching from the Department of Health told Annemarie Evans what the government would be doing to achieve its targets:

An expert on animal law with the University of Hong Kong, Amanda Whitfort, has called on the government to begin the legislative process for a new animal welfare ordinance that would impose a duty of care on owners. Her appeal follows a number of recent suspected cruelty cases in the territory, leading to demands for greater protection on animals. Addressing the Global Animal Law Conference at HKU, the associate professor at the faculty of law said support from Hong Kong people for reform was “huge”. Whitfort spoke to Jim Gould:
More powerful storms expected in India  Listenfacebook
India's Meteorological Department has warned that further powerful storms are likely in the coming days and over a wider area. More than 140 people are now reported to have died in the dust and thunderstorms that swept through northern India on Wednesday night. A senior official in Rajasthan said it was the most intense storm there in decades. RTHK’s Delhi correspondent Murali Krishnan spoke to Annemarie Evans:
