Slowdown in mainland's economy not surprising: economist  Listenfacebook
An economist says the slowdown in the mainland’s economy in the third quarter was not surprising. The founder and chief economist of Economic Research Analysis Connie Bolland said, however, that the government may be able to meet its annual economic growth target of around 6.5 percent. Lawmaker calls for review of services at training centres for mentally-challenged  Listenfacebook
Labour Party lawmaker Fernando Cheung has called for a review of the services provided by training centres for the mentally-challenged. He said instructors working there are not required to have professional knowledge on how to carry out their work. Cheung said this has been the situation for decades and it was about time something was done about it. He was responding to the case of a tutor who was placed on probation for a year by a magistrate for assaulting two mentally-challenged students. Cheung spoke to Annemarie Evans:
Chaos at Indian temple  Listenfacebook
The Sabarimala temple in the south Indian state of Kerala this week opened its doors to women of all ages for the first time after a historic Supreme Court ruling. However no women devotees have yet entered as violent protesters have blocked their way. Two women - journalist Kavitha Jagdal and social activist Rehana Fathima - managed to reach the main temple premises on Thursday. More than 100 police officers protected them from stone-throwing protesters as they walked the last 5 kilometre stretch to the temple. But they had to return after a stand-off with devotees metres from Sabarimala's sanctum. RTHK’s Delhi correspondent Murali Krishnan spoke to Annemarie Evans:
