HK Medical Association supports early closure of kindergartens Listen
The government on Thursday told all of the SAR's hundreds of kindergartens and childcare centres to bring forward their Lunar New Year holidays to Saturday - a week ahead of schedule - to help prevent the influenza virus from spreading even further. Almost 400 had already suspended classes for a week because of flu outbreaks. Paediatrician Tong Kai-sing, who’s a council member of the Hong Kong Medical Association, told Ben Tse why they back the move.
‘Hong Kong kids need more exercise, less screen time’ Listen
Experts at the Chinese University on Thursday said obesity is a serious problem among local children, and many are spending far too much time in front of a screen. A study involving children in dozens of places has found that Hong Kong youngsters do slightly more physical activity than the average, but more than half of them are still quite unfit. Professor Stephen Wong, from the university's Department of Sports Science and Physical Education, spoke to Priscilla Ng about their findings.
Former Jakarta governor freed after jail term for blasphemy Listen
The former governor of Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta - Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, popularly known as 'Ahok' – on Thursday walked free from prison after serving almost two years for blasphemy. AnneMarie Evans put it to Keith Loveard, a senior risk analyst with Jakarta-based Concord Consulting, that 'Ahok' had, at one point, been seen as a possible presidential candidate.
