The mainland on Saturday reported 1,979 new local coronavirus cases, of which 253 were symptomatic.

The bulk of infections continued to come from Shanghai, which reported 1,691 new cases, including 194 symptomatic ones.

One more Covid patient – an 84-year-old man – has died.

Meanwhile, Beijing saw a total of 56 new cases, including 32 symptomatic infections.
