Mainland health authorities on Tuesday reported just 97 new local Covid infections, down from 184 a day earlier.
Among the new cases, 28 were symptomatic and 69 did not show symptoms. The latest infections were mainly from Beijing, where authorities reported 16 symptomatic cases.
The capital reported one community case in Fengtai District – the first community infection found outside quarantined areas in days.
The business hub of Shanghai, meanwhile, reported nine symptomatic cases and 22 asymptomatic ones.
Deputy Shanghai mayor Zhong Ming said the epidemic prevention and control situation is improving, and the city will enter the third phase of reopening.
“From June 1, the city will enter the third phase – the stage of fully restoring normal life and production,” she said.
“The full resumption of work and production in enterprises, parks, and buildings will be accelerated under the premise of good epidemic control. Businesses and communities in areas with no epidemic risk will operate normally, while those in places with risks will continue to operate from home or in a ‘point-to-point’ manner,” she said.
“The resumption of classes will be carried out in stages,” Zhong added.
