Former lawmaker Leung Yiu-chung on Wednesday was sentenced to two weeks in prison for disrupting a Legco meeting in 2019, after pleading guilty to violating the legislature's powers and privileges ordinance.

The West Kowloon Court heard that Leung and seven other former lawmakers, including Chu Hoi-dick, Kwok Ka-ki and Gary Fan, disrupted a meeting to scrutinise the government's extradition bill in May 2019.

Leung was charged with assaulting, obstructing or molesting a Legco member within the precincts of the chamber.

Passing sentence, principal magistrate Peter Law said the situation then was chaotic, adding the defendant's actions amounted to "pouring fuel to fire".

Leung, currently in prison over the unauthorised June 4 assembly case, was originally expected to be released next week at the earliest.
