Police say three people have been arrested following a shooting and machete attack in Central that left three men injured.

The attack on Wyndham Street took place at around 2.40am on Friday.

A video circulating on the internet appeared to show a group of men armed with machetes attacking a seven-seater, but fleeing after shots were fired.

The force said one of those injured was shot in the back, while another has serious head injuries.

The third person was hurt after being hit by a van.
