Police on Saturday said they had arrested 208 people in an overnight operation that targeted triad activities and blocked their sources of income.

The operation, code-named Levington, came after the shooting and machete attack in Central in the early hours of Friday that officers suspect was linked to a dispute between two gangs.

In a statement, the force said officers had raided various entertainment venues, such as bars, mahjong parlours and nightclubs.

Two hundred and eight people, aged between 16 and 79, were arrested during the operation on suspicion of wounding, possession of offensive weapons, trafficking dangerous drugs and running gambling establishments.

Officers also issued about 140 fixed penalty tickets to people who had flouted social distancing rules.
