The police say officers are conducting risk assessments and intelligence gathering to ensure activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's handover will be conducted smoothly and safely.

"The operations department is actively conducting risk assessments, operation deployments and intelligence gatherings," assistant police commissioner Kenneth Kwok said.

"We will have sufficient manpower, and the commissioner also said all officers will be mobilised to ensure each and every activity related to the handover will be conducted safely and smoothly."

Kwok also said the force will hold a series of activities to celebrate the anniversary, including opening the old Yau Ma Tei Police Station to the public in August.

He added that the force, along with other disciplined services and the People's Liberation Army garrison, will perform Chinese-style drills in a marching parade in September.

A documentary will also be released that the police said is aimed at demonstrating the force's determination to connect with the people and safeguard Hong Kong.
