The legislature has cancelled its farewell banquet with outgoing Chief Executive Carrie Lam because of Covid-19 concerns.
The Legco Secretariat on Friday said there has been a rebound in the number of infections in Hong Kong, and hosting a big banquet would unavoidably increase the risk of transmission.
"The number of infections related to the legislature has also been on an increasing trend, with two councillors recently infected," it said.
The secretariat said the lunch banquet planned for June 21 has been cancelled out of caution, after discussions between the Legco president, the Chief Executive's Office and councillors.
Lawmakers Sunny Tan and Kenneth Lau – who's also a member of the Executive Council – came down with Covid in the past week.
