Incoming deputy justice chief Horace Cheung on Wednesday announced he's quit the DAB, saying this paves the way for him to take up his new role.
Earlier, he also resigned from his position as legislative councillor.
In a social media post, Cheung said he'd informed the DAB of his decision to quit the party during a meeting with chairwoman Starry Lee on Tuesday.
“I notified her of my decision not to retain DAB membership to pave way for taking up my official duty, notwithstanding that holding the membership fully complies with the requirement of the HKSAR Government and the law,” he wrote in a social media post.
“I expressed my gratitude to DAB for the support all along and the opportunity given to me.”
Cheung, 47, became one of the party's vice-chairmen in 2009.
