An inquest is to be held into the death from suspected renal failure of a 37-year-old remand prisoner at the Tai Lam Centre for Women.
The Correctional Services Department said she had been receiving treatment for an ongoing kidney problem both at the remand centre and in hospital, but after complaining of feeling unwell was taken to a public hospital on Friday.
It said her condition deteriorated and she was certified dead on Sunday morning.
The case has been reported to the police.
The woman had been on remand since April awaiting trial for the offence of controlling another person for the purpose of unlawful sexual intercourse.
