Elite sports in Hong Kong has progressed by leaps and bounds since the city returned to Chinese rule in 1997. Before the handover, windsurfer Lee Lai-shan was Hong Kong's only Olympic champion, striking gold at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

However, with the establishment of the Elite Athletes Development Fund in 2012, billions of dollars have been poured into the development of local sport.

Fast forward to 2020, when Hong Kong achieved its best-ever Olympic results of one gold, two silver and three bronze medals. RTHK’s Damon Pang examines how the SAR has nurtured elite athletes.
