Hong Kong stocks closed higher on Tuesday on hopes the United States will remove some of the tariffs on Chinese imports put in place by Donald Trump, though earlier gains were pared by ongoing worries about a recession in leading economies.
The Hang Seng Index rose 0.1 percent, or 22 points, to 21,853.
But the Shanghai Composite Index was marginally lower, inching down 1 point to 3,404, while the Shenzhen Composite Index lost 0.6 percent, or 12 points, to 2,232. (AFP)
