Hong Kong on Sunday reported 2,773 new local coronavirus infections and 219 imported cases.
The Hospital Authority said 134 Covid patients have been newly admitted to public hospitals, bringing the total currently receiving care to 924.
Twenty patients are critically ill and 27 are in a serious condition. Two more patients with Covid have died.
Dr Chuang Shuk-kwan of the Centre for Health Protection said officials are making use of the vaccine pass in the LeaveHomeSafe app for contact tracing.
"We're using the LeaveHomeSafe app to see whether there's any clustering [of infections] especially in those mask-off activities in, for example, restaurants to see whether there's any outbreaks," she said.
"If there's any outbreaks, we will obtain the vaccine pass to trace those exposed persons."
Chuang admitted, however, that there have been difficulties in tracking down some people who didn't pick up phone calls from the authorities.
Meanwhile, officials said the Commissioner of Customs and Excise, Louise Ho, had been put in quarantine after a colleague tested positive for the virus.
Ho's Covid tests so far have come back negative, a government statement said.
