A riot suspect who was shot by police during the 2019 protests has appeared in court after being arrested more than 18 months since missing a hearing to face charges related to the unrest.

An arrest warrant for Tsang Chi-kin was issued in December 2020 after he failed to appear in court.

He is accused of rioting and attacking police officers in Tsuen Wan on October 1, 2019 – the same day that he was shot in the chest.

Tsang was arrested in Sai Kung on Wednesday, along with three other men who also face protest-related charges.

During a brief appearance at the District Court on Thursday, Tsang did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody.

Two of the other men detained on Wednesday were brought separately before the District Court, with judge Justin Ko adjourning all three cases to September 13.

The fourth suspect appeared before Eastern Court.
