Four people have been given jail terms of up to three years and two months in connection with a case of petrol bomb possession in 2019, including two men who were arrested after trying to flee to Taiwan.

The four earlier pleaded guilty to possessing anything with intent to destroy or damage property.

The District Court on Saturday handed down jail terms of between 27 and 38 months.

Two of the defendants - Liu Tsz-man and Cheng Tsz-ho - were among 12 people who were intercepted by mainland authorities as they tried to flee Hong Kong by speedboat in 2020.

The duo were jailed for 10 months on Friday for perverting the course of justice by attempting to escape.

And they each have to serve a total of 31 months behind bars, after the District Court on Saturday ordered parts of their sentences to be carried out cumulatively.

The remaining defendants in the case were Cheng Chun and Li Wai-lung.
