A visit to Xinjiang later this month by Hong Kong members of the national legislature has been postponed due to Covid-19.

Some local deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) told RTHK that they were informed of the postponement by the relevant authorities on Wednesday morning.

About 20 of 36 local NPC deputies were to join the trip. They had been slated to leave Hong Kong on Friday and undergo a week of quarantine in Shenzhen before travelling to Xinjiang.

It's not immediately known when the visit will now take place.

In August last year, more than 30 local NPC members met with Xinjiang officials virtually to learn more about the region's social and economic development.
