Hong Kong shares closed lower on Monday after mainland economic data for July came in worse than expected.

The Hang Seng Index slipped 0.7 percent, or 134 points, to end at 20,040.

The Shanghai Composite Index inched down 0.8 points to 3,276, while the Shenzhen Composite Index rose 0.5 percent, or 10 points, to 2,217. (AFP)
